Meditation

Meditation is a practice. It’s something you do everyday, or three times a week, in an effort to quiet your mind a bit and create some space for your thoughts, your hopes, your dreams. But what is it, really? If you close your eyes and think about something very specific, say, your breath, or a bright light, and you are able to bring your focus there, congratulations! You’re meditating.

Often clients say they don’t have time to meditate or they just plain don’t like it. But the fact is many are already doing it, albeit they may be calling it something else.

When they take a moment to reflect on how beautiful a flower is, and are really in the moment…

When they see their children and time freezes for an instant and they are aware of how precious they are…

When a picture grabs their full attention and sparks a creative thought…

These are all meditations. As are the moments when you sit down comfortable, take deep breaths, and focus on the in and out of your respiration. Meditation is sometimes a challenge but always a practice. Some days it will feel easy, and you will drop deeply into yourself. Some days your thoughts will fight you and it will be hard to locate that peace. That’s why it’s a practice. So you can do it every day and make it a part of who you are becoming.
